Bindi Irwin Pays Social Media Tribute To Her Father On 10th Anniversary Of His Death

Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi has paid tribute to her late father by posting a video of herself wrestling a crocodile, ten years to the day that he was killed.

The 18 year old actress, who won last year’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’, shared a short clip of herself and a team of conservationists and wildlife experts, are seen approaching the huge croc from the side before pinning it down – a method used to capture them for the purposes of protecting them from being hunted.

Her father was killed on September 4th 2006, after he was stabbed in the chest by a stingray while he was filming underwater for his television show ‘Ocean’s Deadliest’. Ten years to the day, on Sunday, ‘The Crocodile Hunter’s daughter paid tribute to him in the caption underneath the video.

“Crikey. Check out Big Dunc. Our highly experienced @Australiazoo Croc Team uses the very same capture techniques that dad developed so many years ago. Our team leader, Toby Millyard, was trained by Dad himself and continues to help us carry on in his footsteps. We truly have the most elite team when it comes to catching crocs and we all share the same passion of protecting crocodiles as well as educating others.”

However, some reactions to the clip were extremely negative, with many concerned that she and the team were being cruel to the huge animal by capturing it.

“I respect your opinion however I still find it hard to watch an animal be treated in this way. I can't help but feel that other measures could be put in place to prevent the issues presented to them,” wrote one.

Many others said that Bindi was doing the animals a favour by protecting them from being hunted for sport and commerce. “These creatures need to be rescued from areas like this before poachers kill them and turn them into boots, bags and belts.”

Later the same day, Bindi also posted a picture of herself as a baby, with her father holding her up to the camera, writing: “You'll be my hero for my entire existence. I love you more than words can describe.”
