Listen Up Taylor Swift Critics: Ruby Rose Has Some Sage Advice

  • 01 July 2016

Ruby Rose has taken a stand on social media to stick up for her friend Taylor Swift, whose touchy-feely new relationship with Tom Hiddleston is still attracting more criticism than necessary. Of course it's a bit of a shock to see such blatant public romance just days after her break-up with Calvin Harris, but Ruby Rose says it's none of our business.

The 'Orange Is The New Black' star has had enough of all this negativity directed at Taylor Swift and, indeed, other celebrities with controversial love lives. Ruby Rose posted a screenshot of a written statement about divorce alongside a caption explaining its relevance to fans' obsession with celebrities and their love lives on Instagram. 'I believe that you were meant to spend that time with that person, no one can take that away... It isn't always meant to last forever. Sometimes they end up a big part of your life for 2 years, others they end up being you best friend', the screenshot read.

She went to explain that she understands how outsiders can sometimes become invested in the romantic connections of famous people, but wants us to realise that that doesn't make us a part of that relationship. 'If the relationship ends why do people assume something happened or someone is to blame? Why do they think they know anything about the relationship to be able to make a better call than those in it?' She said. 'So if a woman moves on from a relationship 8 months (or 2 weeks) after a breakup isn't that beautiful? That someone can still continue to open their hearts to people despite times in their lives I'm sure it's been broken.'

Rose also insisted that 'new love never erases old love', and while it seems like she was indeed talking about Taylor Swift, she did allude to herself toward the end of the post. 'Next time you want to tell me who I should be with or who anyone should be with... Maybe just use that energy to find your love. Because trust me... We are adults and we know how to follow our hearts', she concluded.

Indeed, Rose's dating life has also drawn a lot of attention from the media in the past. In 2009, she was briefly engaged to model Lyndsey Anne McMillan before then becoming engaged to Catherine McNeil in the same year. By 2014, she was yet again engaged to Roald Dahl's granddaughter Phoebe Dahl, but the pair broke up by 2015.
