Lock Of David Bowie's Hair Set For Auction
A lock of hair from the late David Bowie is being sold at auction this week and is expected to fetch thousands of pounds. The lock is being auctioned by US auctioneers Heritage Auctions, on behalf of Wendy Farrier, a wig maker who worked at Madame Tussauds in the 1980s and once had to cut a lock of the pop legend’s hair when he posed for his waxwork in 1983.
After cutting Bowie’s hair Wendy, a huge fan of the singer, saved a few strands for herself, which she pinned to her bedroom wall along with her other memorabilia. Auctioneer Margaret Barrett said: "We have sold a lot of celebrity hair in the past but never any of David Bowie's. This is pretty unique.
"It is difficult to predict how much it will go for but we recently sold some of John Lennon's hair, which was snipped from his head by his barber, for a huge sum. David Bowie has now passed away and fans are devastated by the news so we are expecting to get a lot of interest in the sale."

"This woman worked with him and was a wig-maker who was specifically tasked to deal with his hair. She is very credible and this is a direct piece of David Bowie. It is basically a piece of his DNA.” Bids on the lock of hair are now open, ahead of the sale on June 25th.
Speaking to The Mirror, Wendy said: "Someone else normally did the sittings with stars and took their hair samples. They knew I was a big Bowie fan so when he came in, the head of Madame Tussauds said I could do his hair."

"It was around the time that he did Dancing in the Street with Mick Jagger, and he had all different shades of blonde in his hair. He came in and he had a big bouncer with him. I was so nervous, I hardly said anything to him.
"He was lovely but ever so quiet. I just remember looking into his eyes. I wish I hadn't been so nervous - he stayed very cool as I approached with quivering scissors.” The hair is being auctioned alongside other Bowie memorabilia, including a signed lithograph and a signed drawing.
