The Minneapolis-born funk sensation has signed a deal with Spiegel & Grau, a publishing imprint of Random House, to release an autobiography about his life and career; a project for which, he revealed to an audience at a music event at Avenue in Manhattan on Friday (March 18th 2016), he was bringing his friend Dan Piepenbring (of the Paris Review) on board to help.

'He's a good critic and that's what I need. He's not a 'yes' man at all and he's really helping me get through this', said Prince. 'We're starting from the beginning from my first memory and hopefully we can go all the way up to the Super Bowl.' He's referencing his performance in 2007 where he played 'Let's Go Crazy', 'Baby I'm a Star' and 'Purple Rain' against crazy wind and rain.

Within his 40-year career, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Prince has won a total of seven Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. He's released 39 studio albums (his most recent being 2015's 'Hit n Run Phase Two'), been on tour pretty much every year since 1979 and had four US number one albums and numerous hit singles including 'When Doves Cry', 'Purple Rain', 'Let's Go Crazy', 'Kiss' and 'Batdance'.

'Millions of words have been written about Prince - books and articles, essays and criticism - but we're thrilled to be publishing Prince's powerful reflections on his own life in his own incandescently vivid, witty, and poetic voice', said Spiegel & Grau editor Chris Jackson.

A statement from the publishers went on to say that the upcoming memoirs will 'take readers on an unconventional and poetic journey through his life and creative work - from the family that shaped him and the people, places, and ideas that fired his creative imagination, to the stories behind the music that changed the world.'

'The Beautiful Ones' will be published in the fall of 2017 with Random House's Spiegel & Grau.
