Retailer Apologises To Customers For Gloria Steinem Interview

In business, it's impossible to please everybody. Land's End learnt that the hard way when they released an interview with legendary feminist Gloria Steinem, before subsequently taking it down. They've been forced to apologise to the pro-lifers out there for consorting with a pro-abortion activist.

The Wisconsin retailer published an article featuring the women's rights campaigner as part of the 'Legend Series' in their catalogs, to celebrate individuals who have made a difference in the world. While she discussed female equality at length with company CEO Federica Marchionni, many consumers were thoroughly unhappy with her involvement and vowed to boycott the store after accusing them of standing with Steinem on the issue of abortion, some of them being local schools that get their uniforms from the brand. Now, though, Land's End have promptly pulled the interview and apologised to all of their horrified customers.

'We understand that some of our customers were offended by the inclusion of an interview in a recent catalog with Gloria Steinem on her quest for women's equality', the company said in a statement. 'We thought it was a good idea and we heard from our customers that, for different reasons, it wasn't. For that, we sincerely apologize.'

Of course, the fact that they have chosen to erase this occasion from their history has gone on to anger all of Steinem's supporters out there, and it looks like they are seriously outweighing the haters. Their justification was that they wanted to avoid taking any particular stance. 'Our goal was to feature individuals with different interests and backgrounds that have made a difference for our new Legends Series, not to take any political or religious stance', they said.

It's not known what Steinem has to say about this as she has been unavailable to comment. Her supporters are letting their voices be heard, however, because this has turned into a huge ethical nightmare for Land's End.
