Stars arrived in droves yesterday for the UK premiere of British comedy 'Dad's Army'; the big screen movie re-boot of the 70s series of the same name which sees the World War II Home Guard embarking on some home soil adventures of their own while the conflict remains constant overseas.

The premiere came to the Odeon Leicester Square, London last night (January 26th 2016), and while director Oliver Parker ('St. Trinian's') was one of the many people involved in the movie who were snapped on the red carpet, we also saw the creator of the original TV series Jimmy Perry. He appeared alongside some of the other still living 'Dad's Army' veterans, such as Ian Lavender, who returned in the film as Brigadier Pritchard, and Frank Williams who reprised his role as the Reverend Timothy Farthing.

Meanwhile, Lavender's successor Blake Harrison joined the red carpet arrivals, where he was re-united with his 'Inbetweeners' co-star Emily Atack who plays Daphne in the film. Harrison has taken over the role of the youngest troop in the platoon Private Frank Pike.

Of course, the main star of the show was Catherine Zeta-Jones, who looked jaw-droppingly stunning in a floor-length blue gown with a side-split and a plunging neckline. Hubby Michael Douglas wasn't around to steal any of her thunder, so the premiere was all about her and her role as the glamorous journalist Rose Winters. The other main arrivals were Toby Jones and Michael Gambon, who play the characters Captain Mainwaring and Private Godfrey respectively; the former being the inexperienced yet brave commander and the latter being the lovable elderly medical orderly.

Among the other arrivals was 'Sherlock' star Mark Gatiss. He actually has a brand new role of his own, a character who did not originally appear in the TV series. Colonel Theakes is the particularly upper-class head of the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard who informs Mainwaring of a possible enemy spy in the area.

The original series was written by David Croft, with Hamish McColl ('Paddington') adapting the screenplay for the big screen. He has previously worked alongside director Oliver Parker on 2011's 'Johnny English Reborn'.

'Dad's Army' is set to be released in the US on February 5th 2016.
