Hollywood A-lister George Clooney was greeted by hordes of fans in the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh as he visited a sandwich shop set up to help homeless people.

The 54 year old actor was photographed giving a publicity boost to Social Bite, a non-profit organisation which takes on staff who used to be homeless and which has five locations across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The café allows customers to buy a hot drink or food for a homeless person.

Speaking to Sky News on Thursday (November 12th), Clooney praised the “fantastic” idea behind the charity and “loved the idea of paying it forward.”Sampling some of the café’s food and buying a loyalty card at the same time, he said: “I like what they're doing, I think it's a very important cause. I think the idea that we can all participate in everyone's difficulties is really important.”

Later in the day, Clooney had lunch with a competition winner at a secret location in the city. 32 year old wedding planner Heather McGowan said she was “absolutely delighted” to have won, and was “really interested to find out how involved he was in planning his wedding to Amal.”

Clooney is scheduled to end his brief trip to Scotland by speaking at the Scottish Business Awards, hosted by comedian Rob Brydon. All proceeds from that event are going to various charitable causes, including the Social Bite Fund and Clooney’s own charity he set up with fellow actors Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and others, Not On Our Watch.
