Placido Domingo To Undergo Gallbladder Surgery
The 74-year-old tenor was rehearsing to conduct the Metropolitan Opera's production of Tosca on Tuesday (13Oct15) when he began to experience intense pain and vomiting, his spokeswoman tells the Los Angeles Times.
Domingo was taken to a local hospital, where he is "resting more comfortably than he has been," and he will undergo the operation early next week (begs19Oct15).
According to a statement from the Met Opera's publicist, the musician's surgery is expected to be minimally invasive and will allow him to "resume his activities after a brief hospital stay".
Tosca will open as scheduled on Friday (16Oct15), and Domingo will only miss the first four performances. He is expected to return to the production in early November (15).
