As Jurassic World Sequel Gets Dated, A Look Back At Five Dodgy Film Follow-Ups

Not all sequels are terrible - Toy Story, The Bourne Identity and Batman Begins all received excellent second (and third) instalments, for example - but sometimes a disastrous sequel comes along that nobody was asking for. Here are five of the worst.

1. Teen Wolf Too (1987)

Swapping Michael J Fox for Jason Bateman, this fantasy comedy follows Scott Howard's cousin Todd as he adjusts to life in college on a boxing scholarship, and makes a hairy discovery about himself. We'd much rather watch the actually-quite-good 'Teen Wolf' TV series. With a pitiful 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, we're glad 'Arrested Development' star Bateman went on to bigger and better things.

2. Home Alone 3 (1997)

Although not an official sequel to the Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio classic, Titanic II was no doubt trying to find an audience with some of the hundreds of millions of people who watched James Cameron's Oscar-winning disaster film. Set on the 100th anniversary of the original voyage, a luxury liner follows the path of its doomed namesake. The film doesn't have enough reviews for a Rotten Tomatoes score, but its 1.6 rating on IMDb should give you an idea of what to expect from this low-budget rubbish.

4. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)

In 1999, The Blair Witch Project demonstrated how lucrative the now done-to-death found-footage genre could be for horror films. A sequel quickly followed, with a significantly larger budget, but stylistically it was a very different beast, and nowhere near as good. Prepare for boredom as a group of tourists explore the mythology of the first film in the Black Hills. Blair Witch 2 boasts a frankly terrifying 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

5. American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002)

Just two years after Christian Bale entertained audiences with his brilliantly deranged portrayal of killer businessman Patrick Bateman, this straight-to-video sequel cast comedy star Mila Kunis as Rachael Newman, an ambitious criminology student who develops a taste for murder. Not even co-star William Shatner could save it: the film holds a terrible 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
