Bond Is Back, But Here Are Five Other Daniel Craig Films Worth Watching

  • 22 July 2015

As the latest 007 outing, Spectre, draws ever closer, we're taking a look back at five films from Daniel Craig's varied big-screen career - none of which involve the iconic superspy in a suit.

1. Layer Cake (2004)

Long before Sam Mendes worked with Daniel Craig on Skyfall (and this year's Spectre, of course), the Oscar-winning director brought this captivating crime noir, based on the graphic novel, to the big screen. Tom Hanks stars as a mob enforcer who seeks revenge against gangster Craig, who murdered his wife and youngest son. Paul Newman and Jude Law also star.

3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Arriving in cinemas just months after Philip Seymour Hoffman won an Oscar for his portrayal of Truman Capote, writer/director Douglas McGrath released his own biopic of the author. Daniel Craig plays Perry Smith, the convicted murderer who developed a complicated relationship with Capote (Toby Jones) behind bars. Disappointingly, Infamous took just $2.6million at the global box office.

5. Defiance (2008)

Craig stars as Tuvia Bielski in Defiance

Dividing the critics on its release, this well-acted Second World War drama was set during the occupation of Belarus by Nazi Germany. Daniel Craig is joined by Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell and George MacKay as the Bielski brothers, who fought to rescue Jews from extermination during the conflict.
