Mark Ronson: 'Amy Winehouse Documentary Was Tough To Watch'

  • 06 July 2015

The Uptown Funk music producer became good friends with Winehouse when they worked together on her smash hit album Back to Black, and he struggled to watch footage of his pal's substance abuse battle in the documentary, titled Amy.

However, Ronson approves of the film because it reminds the public, including his wife Josephine de La Baume, how gifted the singer was.

He tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "Obviously, it's tough to watch the film because it brings back memories... But what I love about it is that my wife never got to meet Amy and I am always telling her stories about us in the studio and the clever, witty things that Amy would say.

"We watched it and my wife said, 'Now I get it, now I see the Amy you talked about'. I forget that not everyone got to see that side of her... The really respectful thing about the movie is you are reminded why she was famous in the first place - she was a genius, that's the stuff even I can forget."

Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, aged 27.
