With A $95 Million Box Office Prediction: Is ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ On Course To Break Box Office Records?
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy looks to be sailing on course to become one of the studio’s biggest movies of all time, thanks to an already phenomenal opening weekend.
Starring Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista, the quirky comic book movie has more than exceeded expectations, earning five star reviews from fans and critics alike. But the film’s high praise looks to be echoed at the box office this weekend, with some Disney insiders predicting it will take over $95 million in North America.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the movie was on course to earn nearly $40 million on Friday alone, including $11.2 million from Thursday night, the best showing of the year so far. While those at Disney are said to be cautiously predicting a gross of between $85 million and $95 million over the weekend, others say the movie’s takings could even go over the $95 million mark.
What’s certain is that Guardians of the Galaxy will break the current record held by The Bourne Ultimatum for the all time highest August opening. The movie, starring Matt Damon had held the top spot since 2007 after its $69.2 million opening weekend.
A unique blend of action and comedy, Guardians of the Galaxy has set itself apart from the rest of the Marvel Universe. Based on one of the more obscure comic books, the movie was a risk for Marvel coming off the already hugely successful Avengers franchise.
However Guardians has surpassed all expectations and plans are already in place for a sequel coming on July 28, 2017 with James Gunn returning to direct.
