Marianas Trench Tell You How To Write A Pop Song In 'Pop 101'
Marianas Trench is taking us to school. Don't worry - you won't be needing an expensive text book for this course, because they're teaching us the basics of pop music with their brand new single, 'Pop 101.'
It's funny, because even though 'Pop 101' is obviously a parody, it does very well as a pop song on its own. The verses are wacky in the best ways possible, like when talking about Mumford & Sons, it actually turns into your typical folk track before breaking out into a ridiculously catchy chorus. In fact, it's probably one of the most addicting hooks in the band's discography, and it's bound to be another hit in Marianas Trench's catalog. Perhaps this could be the one that crosses them over to the U.S, too. Overall, it's a great "welcome back" from a band that hasn't released new music in a couple of years. Marianas Trench has been in the studio working on a new record allegedly set for release by the end of this year, and if 'Pop 101' is any evidence as to what's to come, we can't wait to see what else is up their sleeves.
