  • 25 July 2014

Happy Birthday toDaniel Radcliffe! The actor famous for his wizardry and impressive wand skills turned 25 earlier this week - a far cry from those early acting days as a young 11-year-old taking his first Harry Potter steps. While Radcliffe has spent his first quarter of a century surrounded by magic and mystery at Hogwarts, the British-born favourite has also tried his hand at a number of other non-broomstick-related projects.

To celebrate all his achievements obtained in such a short space of time, here are five of his best films.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The third of the Harry Potter films, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban marked a departure for the director and the actors. Original director of the first two Harrys, Chris Columbus, handed responsibility to Alfonso Cuarón who took it on and struck a delicate balance between wonderful wizardry and impressive storytelling.

For Radcliffe, he was well into his teens in this film and succeeded in developing Potter into a much darker and more complex character than ever before.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

The conclusion of such an epic series as Harry Potter was always going to be widely-anticipated and subject to possible disappointment to its fans.

Magically, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 as the final film did not let anyone down. With Radcliffe and co all grown up, they brought powerful drama to their acting and the conclusion of the huge cinematic undertaking of Harry Potter won almost universal critical acclaim.

The Woman in Black

The Woman in Black was Radcliffe’s first film post-Potter and a far cry from the magical mystery of Hogwarts. Not only was it a horror, Radcliffe also played the part of a divorced lawyer. While it didn’t achieve audience reaction anywhere near as good as Harry Potter, it received positive critiques and provided Radcliffe with a new, grown-up voice.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Despite the fact that Radcliffe cringes at re-watches of his early Potter days, most people cannot deny he was as cute as a button as the young wizard.

As an 11-year-old largely untrained actor, his performance may not have been the best he’s ever given but it is definitely one for the scrapbook.

What If

What If is Radcliffe’s newest film and in it he’s gone all rom-com on us. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013 and looks like another successful step away from cape and wand.

What If comes hits UK cinemas on August 20.
