A Short History Of Forgotten Destiny’s Child Member Farrah Franklin

Farrah Franklin, the forgotten fourth member of Destiny’s Child, found herself back in the spotlight on Sunday (July 20th) after being arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. If Franklin’s name doesn't sound too familiar that’s probably because she only spent five months alongside Beyonce and co back in 2000, meaning we hardly had any time to get know her. With that in mind, here’s everything we could find out about Destiny’s Child’s elusive fourth member.

Farrah started her singing career as a member of short lived girl group Jane Doe. But in 1999 when Jane Doe were about ready to call it quits, another girl group, Destiny’s Child were also having some internal drama. Original members LeToya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson had allegedly written to manager Matthew Knowles (father of Beyonce) asking for new representation, but instead they found themselves unceremoniously kicked out of the band.

After meeting Beyonce and Kelly when she was an extra in the ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ video, Farrah was asked to join the group in late 1999, alongside another new member, Michelle Williams. This new Destiny’s Child line-up would debut in the video for ‘Say My Name.’ But Franklin’s place in the group turned out to be short lived. After just a handful of live performances and an appearance in the ‘Jumpin Jumpin’ video, Franklin's days as one quarter of the world’s biggest girl group came to an abrupt end. According to Frankin, she didn't even know she’d been fired from the band until she’d heard about it on MTV.

Beyonce said Franklin was fired after the singer missed three major dates and expressed a lack of interest in continuing with the group. But Franklin tells another story, blaming a bad feeling in the group that had been carried over after Robertson and Luckett’s departures.

Next, what was Farrah's carrer like post-Destiny's Child **After her departure Franklin was signed to the record label of California rapper Lil Fizz where she recorded a song entitled ‘Get at Me' with Method Man, however she was soon released from her contract. From then she tried to start a new career as a model and actress which led to small appearances in television programmes and music videos and featuring on the cover of magazines such as Vibe and Cosmo Girl. But Franklin is said to be still interested in a music career and has reportedly recorded 13 songs, but there’s no word on when or if ever any of her new music will be released.

Sadly, the last time Franklin’s name was in the press post Destiny’s Child was in 2011 when she was arrested for disorderly conduct in Culver City, California. She would later claim she’d been the victim of racial profiling and accuse the “police of manhandling her’, however police representatives told TMZ they arrested Franklin after responding to a resident's claim that she had been "disturbing the peace”. Now three years on Farrah’s been arrested for disorderly conduct again, this time in South Carolina, where TMZ reports the singer had been ‘partying with football players.’

It can’t be easy for Farrah having spent such a brief period of time in such a successful pop group, especially one which included Beyonce. But here’s hoping she can soon put her recent legal misstep behind her. Plus who know.s a little bit of publicity might actually be just what Farrah needs to get her career up and running again.
