Marvel Announces New Comic With Female Thor. #NerdRage Ensues.
Ok, so this new change in Marvel comics canon is pretty bomb, we have to admit. Unlike his adopted brother/sister/occasional animal Loki, Thor’s form in the comics has always been set – a big, hulking thunder god of a man. Well, not anymore.

No, don’t worry, the big, hulking part is still true, but for Marvel’s upcoming series, kicking off this fall, Thor is switching genders. The new version of the Norse god is the same in every way, except one, but it’s a pretty big one.
The new comic is written by Jason Aaron with art by Russell Daughterman. It debuted on The View, where the creators showed off a couple preview images of the female Thor. Oh and by the way, don’t call her “Lady Thor”, the Marvel guys seem really touchy about that one.
“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before,” Aaron explained via press release.
You’ll be pleased to know that there’s very little Power Girl boob window-type nonsense in Thor’s new look, although she does have some very shiny breast plates and little to no armour in the crucial ribcage area. Oh, well. Baby steps are still steps. On the bright side, Marvel really seem to be making an effort to represent their large and largely ignored female fanbase. As editor Will Moss explained, via MTV: “[T]his new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!”
Unfortunately, not everyone is taking the news all that well.
