Bruce Springsteen has made his directional debut with a 10:15 minute short film posted on his website, entitled Hunter of Invisible Game. Springsteen stars as a post-apocalyptic survivor, remembering his past life and family. The film premiered on Wednesday (9th July) and was created as a means of thanking Springsteen's fans for their ongoing support over the past two years.
Springsteen also added his own statement, thanking fans especially those in New Zealand and South Africa which he described as a "particular highlight." The 64-year-old added a "big shout out" to fans in America.
The film, entitled Hunter of Invisible Game, stars Springsteen and is based on his song of the same name. Springsteen appears as a lonely survivor remembering his part. After looking at pictures and mementos of his family, the film is intercut with vision like images of a woman hanging out washing and children playing in the sunlight. Springsteen's character meanwhile is wandering through deserted farm houses and on horseback across fields.
The film came into being as Zimny and Springsteen had discussed it for the past year. Zimny is a director, editor and producer who has worked with Springsteen on numerous occasions filming his concerts, his credits also include HBO's The Wire. Springsteen thanked his collaborator in his statement, saying "We've finally got the job done, and we think it's one of our best. Thanks Thom for the hard work and brotherly collaboration.
