Will John Turturro Reprise Cult Fave Jesus Quintana For Big Lewbowski Spin-Off?
Big news for Big Lebowski fans: John Turturro is seeking legal clearance to reprise the role of Jesus Quintana, a colourful bowler with a chequered history, for a new film in 2015.
The news came about as Turturro chared his thoughts with the crowd during a masterclass at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily on Saturday. “If I can get the permission I need, I’d like to return to the role,” he announced, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His words were met with reassuring cheers.

The news will likely have you flicking through your DVD collection to give The Dude a rewatch, but just in case you need reminding:
-
Quintana is an opponent of The Dude's bowling team
-
He did six months in Chino for exposing himself to an 8 year old, for which Walter calls him a "pederast".
-
He speaks with a thick Cuban American
-
He refers to himself as "The Jesus", pronounced the English way, not the Latin American way
- He licks his bowling ball before taking a shot
Presumably, The Coen Brothers would be okay with Turturro taking on the character himself. They obviously trust him as they gave him a lot of creative freedom when filming The Big Lebowski in 1997. Shining the bowling ball and the scene where he dances backwards -which he says was inspired by Muhammad Ali – that was all him.

The Coen Bros. have never made a sequel to any of their films, but of course this wouldn’t be a true sequel – in fact Turturro could go anywhere with the character, even towards the direction of dispelling that “pederast” rumour. And what’s more, they did just let Noah Hawley translate Fargo into a TV series.
