From Kanye To Kurt: Musicians Who Started Out With Ordinary Jobs
Everybody’s got to earn a living somehow and when you're an aspiring rock star you might end up having to take a few bad jobs along the way to pay the bills. Take these 10 for example, who certainly learnt the meaning of a hard day’s work before finding fame.
Morrissey
Trust Morrissey to have the most drab pre fame job of them all. The former Smiths frontman once briefly worked as a clerk for the Inland Revenue. However young Steven was obviously spending his days daydreaming about music as his letters to the NME from the period will attest. On one, about Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, he signed off, “PS: I work for the Inland Revenue - am I still allowed to be a punk?” Yes you are Morrissey, but only cause it’s you.

Jon Bon Jovi
Jon Bon wasn’t exactly living on a prayer before his band hit the big time, instead he was earning a wage making Christmas tree decorations. Now he’s a famous rockstar things seem to have come full circle for Jon as a quick Google showed there are countless Christmas baubles out there featuring the singer’s trademark smile. Actually they’re pretty freaky.
Sheryl Crow
Before finding fame, Sheryl put her musical talents to good use by working as a music teacher for autistic children in St. Louis. But after a few years of teaching and moonlighting as a singer in a covers band Sheryl packed up and moved to L.A. to pursue her dream. We’re guessing she hasn’t looked back since.
