"She likes to get stuck in. She's some woman. She's great," he told the Press Association of Angelina.
The 30-year-old continued: "She was everything you want from a great director, you know. She was caring and present - she has a lot of drive and talent and all of those things you need people to be if you really trust the director, and I totally trusted her."

Domhnall is on a career high at the moment, having been cast in JJ Abrams' new Star Wars movie, said to be titled The Ancient Fear. He also stars alongside Michael Fassbender in indie-flick 'Frank' about an aspiring young musician who joins a band, dreaming ofd stardom.
Gleeson - the son of actor Brendan Gleeson - admitted it wasn't easy learning to play the keyboard for the role.
"I can play the fiddle, the traditional classical instrument, a little bit but I had to learn keyboards for the film. So that was tough, but I learnt what I needed to know and not much else," he said.
He added: "We got to rock out a little bit so that was cool."
Frank opens in cinemas in the UK on May 9.
Unbroken - which follows the story of Zamperini, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II - is released on Christmas Day 2014.
