Box Office Review: "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" Headed For An Adequate $100 Million Debut

Despite heavy promotion, The Amazing-Spider Man 2’s box office outlook going into the weekend isn’t too impressive. The film opens in 4000 theaters this weekend, and while the film has a good enough chance of coming on or near the top of the chart, it’s not likely to match the earlier success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Forbes predicts a $100 million+ debut for the Sony flick. While that wouldn’t be enough to propel the film into the record books, it should help it top the box office, despite Captain America: The Winter Soldier still performing strong. Spidey also benefits from a comfortable release slot. Since one of the biggest film events of the season, Godzilla, doesn’t drop in the US until May 16, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 should get the blockbuster slot all to itself for at least a couple of weeks.
