Neil Patrick Harris Rants At Fan During 'Hedwig' Show, But Was In Character The Whole Time
Do not interrupt Neil Patrick Harris during his performance!
The 40 year-old actor's recent Broadway performance of 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' is getting quite a lot of unusual attention.
Harris is a popular star and does have many fans, but on this particular occasion a female admirer might have taken things a bit too far.
According to Page Six, during a show on Saturday (April 19th) the female audience member shouted, "I love you Neil!," during his performance, but more surprisingly Harris quickly shouted back, "I'm doing something up here, motherf-cker!"
The former 'How I Met Your Mother' actor didn't waste any time addressing this incident, but he did take to Twitter to explain that it had been taken out of context.
"It seems my Hedwig improvs are making news," he tweeted. "But one should have the full story/context."
Along with the post, Harris directed fans towards a Gossip Cop story which clarifies that he didn't curse at an audience member, his character did, which explained the "musical - about a transgender German punk rocker - is highly improvisational, embracing audience interaction."
The frequent award-show host's rep also told the site, "The response to the fan yelling was actually done in character - Neil as Hedwig, not as though Neil stopped the show to respond out of character."
"When the fan initially yelled, 'I love you, Neil,' Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, 'Who's Neil? I'm not Neil," the rep continued. "He then looked at Yitzhak (Lena Hall) and said, 'Are you Neil? You better not be Neil' followed by Hedwig then offering the quote in question."

"It was all done in good fun, and fully in the context of the show. The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment, which is not being properly contextualized in any of these various posts," added the spokesman.
The musical is still in the middle of its preview stage and is slated for opening night on April 22nd.
