New Jack White Album On The Way: Lazaretto Arriving On June 9/10

  • 01 April 2014

Jack White – former half of White Stripes and member of both Dead Weather and The Raconteurs - plans to release a new solo album called “Lazaretto” on June 10 as the follow-up to his 2012 debut solo effort, ‘Blunderbuss.’

In addition to the album’s release in June, White announced - via both his own website and the Third Man Records site – that the title track would be released later on this month.

“Jack White presents his new album Lazaretto, to be released June 9th/10th on Third Man Records. Lazaretto inhabits an exciting place in White’s expansive discography as the follow-up to 2012′s gold-certified international #1 Blunderbuss, and will be preceded by first single and title track “Lazaretto,” to be released later this month,” read the post.

Those of you lucky enough to be a member of the the Third Man Record’s Vault are in line for a limited edition of the album. Pressed on split-color blue-and-white vinyl, the special bundle also includes blue vinyl 7-inch with two early demos of songs that appear on Lazaretto, a 40-page hardbound Lazaretto book, and a letter-pressed linen postcard. How about that?

According to Wikipedia, “A lazaretto or lazaret is a quarantine station for maritime travellers.” Will that be represented in the new album; will Jack White be using this new record as a place to unwind, quarantined from the rocky waves that have punctuated his career so far?

Around the start of this year, White said he was almost done working on a new album. "It's definitely not one sound. It's definitely several. Like you heard in Blunderbuss, there's many different styles there. I don't pick my style and then write a song. I just write whatever comes out of me, and whatever style it is is what it is, and it becomes something later,” he said of the new album.
