In Celebration Of Hollywood Cool Couple Sara Gilbert And Linda Perry

  • 02 April 2014

Congratulations are in order for Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry who tied the knot on Sunday in a very private ceremony. This cool couple are one that we just can’t help feeling over the moon for, I mean Sara is Darlene from Roseanne (or Lesley Winkle from the Big Bang Theory) and Linda gave us a 90s hit What's Up and then wrote Christina Aguilera's Beautiful. In celebration of their union let's look back at the couple's journey to the altar.

We first became aware of Sara Gilbert as Darlene Connor, Roseanne’s tomboy daughter from 1988 to 1997. During her 9 season stint on the show, brainy Sara even managed to fit in the time to study art at Yale University. While her role as Darlene kept her in the memory of 90s tv audiences she went on to take various tv guest spots as we'll as a few small film roles, perhaps most memorably as the girl who bonds with Dick over Green Day in High Fidelity. She then landed the recurring role of Leslie Winkle on CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory alongside her former boyfriend and Roseanne co-star Johnny Galeckii. Winkler is notable for perhaps being the only character in the show who might just be smarter than Sheldon Cooper. Currently Gilbert hosts the NBC daytime chat show The Talk which she created and also serves as executive producer of.

Also finding fame in the early 90s, Linda Perry started off as the front woman of 4 Non Blondes, a band best remembered for their 1993 hit What’s Up. After leaving the band a year after the single’s success she embarked on a solo career, releasing two albums to limited commercial success. She then found her footing as songwriter, first working on Pink’s Missundaztood album and then penning the Christina Aguilera hit _Beautifu_l. Since then perry has gone on to work with artists such as Courtney Love, Gwen Stefani, Enrique Iglesias and Lisa Marie Presley.

Gilbert only came out publicly as a lesbian in 2010 when promoting the debut of her show The Talk. Her sexuality was however well known before her admission, as she'd been in a relationship with TV producer Allison Adler from since 2001. The couple broke up in 2011 but have two children together, a son born to Adler and a daughter born to Gilbert, which they now share custody of.

Next page: going public with their relationship

Gilbert and Perry first went public with their relationship in 2011, though not through choice. They had been pictured out together hand in hand, leading to media speculation that they were an item. The photos caused Gilbert to reveal the pair were dating on her talk show joking, ’I do want to share [the news] with you ... but I want to do it on my terms, in full hair and makeup’. After two years of dating, Perry popped the question to Gilbert in what has to be one of the most romantically epic proposals ever. While enjoying a picnic together a street musician started playing one of the couple’s favourite songs, next Perry asked him to play a more obscure favourite which he unexpectedly knew. Then nearby picnickers started playing another love song, on string instruments which had been concealed. Perry then started layering on T-shirts that read "will," "you," "marry," "me," and "?" and brought out the ring. To top it all off family and friends of the couple then turned up along with John Waite, who started playing Missing You. Sara described the moment as, 'the most amazing proposal ever.'

Now the couple have wed in a private ceremony which included guests such as actress Juliette Lewis, who tweeted Sunday, 'Holiday by Madonna playin, sun is beaming, gettin ready 4 the wedding of 1of my fave couples in the universe @RealLindaPerry @THEsaragilbert', as well as Sara’s cohosts from The Talk. The newlyweds are now said to be enjoying their honeymoon with Sara taking some valuable time off from her chat show gig. While the two have done everything they can to keep their wedding private, we just cant help imagining that this one was one of the coolest celebrity weddings of recent times. Plus if the proposal was anything to go by it was also certainly one of the most romantic. Congratulation's again Sara and Linda.
