"Avengers: Age Of Ultron": New And Improved (Maybe) Scarlet Witch And Quicksilver Character Design Revealed
The Scarlet Witch of the Marvel cinematic universe doesn’t look too faithful to her comic book counterpart, but fans should probably still be glad that she and brother/co-conspiritor Quicksilver are making it into the movie franchise. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver make regular appearances in the comics and it will be interesting to see how Joss Whedon and co. bring them into the Age of Ultron plot.
For now, those interested will have to settle for the concept art for the two characters, which was recently revealed in the ABC special Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe. The designs for the two characters might have some hardcore fans up in arms, but generally, they look appropriate for the Avengers movie going crowd.
Quicksilver’s look doesn’t seem to have undergone too many changes, but then it’s hard to make a more basic version of a blue bodycon outfit and windswept hair. So the cinematic Quicksilver will resemble a Fantastic Four team member, without any of the uniform details. Disappointingly, it looks like the design team has also done away with his trademark white lightning across the chest (as well as the white hair,) but other than that, there hasn’t been much tweaking here.

Scarlet Witch on the other hand, has gone through a major makeover. It looks like this is Marvel’s effort to make her seem cool to the Millenial crowd, but Quicksilver’s sister and powerful mutant seems to have lost a lot of her mojo. Scarlet Witch’s recognizable look – red bodysuit, red mask, flowing red cape – has been done away with entirely. Instead, she’s wearing a crimson leather jacket, frayed skirt and lots of leather on all her extremities. If not for the glowing eyes, good ol’ Scarlet, to be played by Elisabeth Olsen, looks like a teenager going through her rebellious phase, at best. Ultimately though, it’ll be up to moviegoers to decide. Was the update necessary? Successful? What do you think?
Having graduated from Kick-Ass, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is moving on as Quicksilver.
