Tina Fey may have disappointed the legion of Mean Girls fans when she shot down the recent rumours of a sequel to the classic 2004 teen comedy as its 10 year anniversary creeps into view. Fey appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon alongside Lindsay Lohan where they talked about the rumours which have been buzzing louder than ever recently.

The Mean Girls' original cast - Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried - have all seen their careers greatly advance in the ten years since Mean Girls was released so will be unlikely to take to the stage for a rebirth of their teen dramedy roles. Fey and Richmond probably won't look to the ill-fated TV movie, Mean Girls 2, for casting solutions either. The 2011 film was a decided flop, rehashing its predecessor's original jokes and set-ups to critical scorn.

Neither Fey nor the Mean Girls cast had a hand in Mean Girls 2 meaning fans have been calling for a second outing of the oft-quoted flick. The musical's details are scarce right now but Fey did say she'd like to reunite the original cast for a tenth anniversary bash.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, Mean Girls lead Lindsay Lohan revealed: "I saw Tina and she mentioned doing a reunion. She said she was talking to Lorne [Michaels] about it. She's talking to the big boss." Watch this space!
