Crime Thriller 'Blood Ties', Starring Clive Owen And Mila Kunis, Releases First Theatrical Trailer

The Guillaume Canet-directed thriller 'Blood Ties' has finally released its first theatrical trailer. The film, based on the French novel of the same name by Bruno and Michel Papet, is a remake of the French flick 'Les liens du' (2008).

The drama, which will be released in selected theatres this coming March, boosts an all-star cast which includes, Clive Owen, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Marion Cotillard and Billy Crudup.

The plot occurs in 1974 in New York City and follows two brothers, ex-con Chris Pierzynski (Owen) and his younger sibling, police officer Frank (Crudup). After being released from prison for good behaviour after serving seven years, Chris moves in with Frank, who is determined to help his brother change his ways.

Although Frank feeds Chris, gives him a place to stay and tries to reconnect him with his estranged family and ex-wife (Cotillard), Chris cannot help but to fall back into the criminal world, putting him into a family conflict with Frank.

What will happen when their paths cross again?

The thriller has generally received a positive reaction from critics after it was screened several film festivals last year, and it holds a 70% score on the critic site Rotten Tomatoes.

Gary Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times thought, the film "increasingly intrigues as events unfold, all against a convincing ticking clock."

Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly echoed the praise by stating, "Blood Ties, in the guise of a crime thriller, creates a panorama of broken lives trying to put themselves back together."

Kevin Jagernauth from The Playlist adds, "Blood Ties is a curious film where if you were to remove any of the crucial parts, it would splinter, yet put all together, it kind of works, in its own wildly uneven way."

Although not every critic thought the film captured the audience's attention and blame its lengthy running time, as Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter wrote, "This overlong and anemic drama features an impressive cast but is too inert to catch on with critics or audiences."

'Blood Ties' will hit theatres on March 21st 2014.
