Jennifer Lawrence Will Own 2014 Following Golden Globes Win - Preview

  • 14 January 2014

The internet has been going a bit crazy over Jennifer Lawrence lately (as in the past two years) and with good reason. Besides literally winning all of the awards, including a Golden Globe for American Hustle this past Sunday, JLaw’s starring roles in two blockbuster franchises and her occasional resemblance to a lost puppy on the red carpet make for a perfect storm of media appearances.

This year will see Lawrence follow the established pattern of blockbuster, award bait, blockbuster and star in the Susanne Bier drama Serena. Lawrence plays the title role of Serena Pemberton, the childless wife of a Southern timber magnate. You should probably start betting on the its Oscar nod soon.

Then, in November, it’ll be time for the big one. You know the one we’re talking about. Teenage girl, really good archer, likes to take down corrupt dictatorship and look sulky on camera? Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in Mockingjay Part 1, due to be out on November 21.

With Catching Fire having been a surprising hit with the critics, as well as a commercial success (it grossed a domestic total of $409 million and as of January, the film topped the record set by Iron Man 3) there is practically no way for Mockingjay to bomb at the box office. Although there is still everything to lose in terms of critical reception, it's a pretty safe bet that the success train will just keep on going.

If 2013 was the year of Jennifer Lawrence, then 2014 might just see her become President of the Internet – democratically elected, of course.
