Britney Spears Kick Starts 'Piece Of Me' Las Vegas Show

  • 28 December 2013

We've been discussing Britney Spears' residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Hotel in Las Vegas since it was announced earlier this year and on Friday, 27 December, night the singer finally got her long-awaited Las Vegas residency underway. The 32-year-old entertainer performed her first 'Piece Of Me' show in front of a packed house, one with plenty of famous faces in it, as she began the next two years of her career.

Britney's first performance was exciting and wild

Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, two artists who owe a lot to Britney in terms of influence alone, were in the VIP section to watch Britney's debut performance in Sin City, but they were far from alone in the packed out Planet Hollywood arena. These many fans were treated to lashings of cheesy pop as she went through a 23-song set full of classic Britney hits, with the singer looking to the past rather than relying on her newer material for the performance. The singer offered no shortage of wardrobe changes or pyrotechnics either, as she ensured that the first batch of 'Piece of Me' audience members left the venue in awe.

Starting the show with new song 'Work Bitch,' Britney began the performance in high octane fashion, keeping it going right until the end. She went back to her older releases soon though and in her trademark blonde locks, Britney really got things going with a rendition of 'Circus,' before wigging up for a version of '...Baby One More Time' whilst wearing a brunette wig and surrounded by dancers.

The show was much similar to a Cirque du Soleil show than it was a standard Vegas pop performance, but with the 7,000-strong crowd on their feet for the majority of the show, if anything it was typically Britney. She went on to perform tracks such as 'Gimme More,' 'Everytime,' 'Slave 4 U' and 'Toxic,' each song as fast-paced and exciting as the last. She also slowed it down for two tender performances, with Britney standing alone on the stage as she performed 'Lucky' and new single 'Perfume.'

This is only the beginning though and the set list Britney went through is by no means definite. If you are going down to see Britney in Vegas, expect the unexpected and be prepared to be entertained!
