Waiting For 'American Hustle'? Check Out These New Clips
We’re edging ever closer to David O Russell’s follow up to the much-celebrated Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, but it’s not quite here yet. In fact, it’s over two weeks until the US get hold of it, while the UK have to stay patient until January 3rd, 2014. So in the meantime, here are some cool clips from the movie.
American Hustle sees O Russell combine with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence again, but the reunification story doesn’t stop there: Christian Bale and Amy Adams also return to work with the director, after their success on The Fighter, which also starred Mark Wahlberg, a sequel for which is in the works.
Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) is a charismatic, skilled and renown conman. He and his equally accomplished schemer, Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) are forced to work for a maverick FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). When Irving’s wife, Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) gets involved, the whole operation is jeopardized. What is the operation? We can’t wait to find out either.

The film, which was originally going to be called American Bullshit, is highly anticipated, and falls into the dangerous category of: ‘films that are being talked about in Oscar contention before the reviews are out’. That’s happened before, with _The Counsello_r, remember? And we all know what went down there.

If American Hustle does, however, live up to the hype, it will complete a trifecta of successful movies, and will propel O Russell to another level of respect; a separate pantheon of directors.
“I was very fortunate to get The Fighter. And that became the first chapter in all the work I’m doing right now… Silver Linings, to me, was another chapter of a similar world. Of people, and a family, and a community, and a home, who speak a certain way and who are very emotional and very intense, in ways that I find fascinating,” he explained to ET in a video interview. “The new movie, American Hustle, is a third chapter of that, to me. It’s the biggest world in a way.”
With such a skilled director at the helm and a group of incredible actors, who have all forged a working relationship with their auteur, American Hustle is looking like it’ll be one of the success stories of 2013. But it’ll have plenty of work on its hands prying an Oscar out of Gravity, Captain Phillips and 12 Years a Slave’s hands come March 2014 when the Academy dole out their gongs.
