What Are Ron Burgundy's Most Hilarious Publicity Stunts Ahead Of The 'Anchorman 2' Release?

  • 03 December 2013

As this is written, Will Ferrell and co. are probably getting ready to terrorise another part of North America with their brand of dysfunctional comedy, as the Anchorman 2 publicity train keeps on rolling. In the build up to the release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, we've heard of and seen some funny stuff, so much so we decided to make a list of our favourite bits!

Burgundy and his moustache have been working hard ahead of the film's release

His two most recent stunts are some of his best, which gives us the feeling that the bumbling Ron Burgundy will be 'reporting' up and down North America, and possibly even further afield, right up until the new Anchorman in released later this month. After enjoying "Winnipeg, the Paris of Canada" this weekend, Ron could very well be showing up somewhere unexpected later this week, but considering how good his previous stunts have been, he will have to pull out all the stops to match.

Before he was shown the ways of the great curling teams of Canada, Ron stopped by a local news station in Bismarck, North Dakota, to do what he was born to do: read the local news. Despite showing a absolutely no knowledge of the Bismark area, or any of the stories he was reporting on, Burgundy did an admirable job under the circumstances.

It's gunna get classy later this month

He might not have remembered his signature sign off either, but then again "stay classy" is only reserved for the classiest city of them all: San Diego.

Will Ferrell isn't the only person to deliver the news dressed as Ron Burgundy, as Boise sports anchor Paul Gerke demonstrated quite brilliantly at Halloween time. The sports anchor for Boise’s KIVI Channel 6 news coverage, Gerke quoted bits from the first Anchorman film and dropped more than one other reference to the movie during his 5 minute skit.

Gerke's hair was good, but it wasn't Ron Burgundy good

As cringe-worthy as it sounds, the end result wasn't even that bad, it was actually pretty darn funny. Gerke even managed to slip a comment in about the new Dodge Durango range, a range of cars that Burgundy is currently the face for.

We all now how good a car salesman Ferrell can be thanks to HBO's Eastbound and Down, but it wasn't Ashley Schaffer who was brought in to sell the new Dodge Durango, it was the man of the moment Ron Burgundy who was picked up for the multi-platform marketing campaign for the 2014 range.

The new Dodge range is good, but is it as good as crack?

In a series of viral clips and television commercials, Ron stares down a horse, chases away a pair of ballroom dancers and serves as the most sharply dressed car salesman we've ever come across.

This one isn't his funniest exploit, but it is definitely Ron Burgundy's most tasty pre-Anchorman 2 venture. In October, Ben & Jerry's released the limited edition 'Scotchy, Scoth, Scotch' flavour to their range. Although it doesn't actually contain any scotch, it does contain the more family-appropriate butterscotch, topped with more butterscotch.

It's not ice cream they're looking at here

Obviously, it was a big deal when the ice cream was first launched, and B&J's pulled out all the stops for the launch party, even booking Nutty, the water skiing squirrel for the event. You better believe that it was good.

As already stated, we've probably not seen the last of Burgundy in the real world, and we haven't even had chance to go through all his recent misadventures. Lets not forget, Burgundy's memoirs will be released in time for Christmas and he has even had a building at Boston University named after him, not to mention his own exhibit at the Washington D.C. Newseum. Its a shame his hosting job at the MTV EMAs wasn't as shocking or funny as it could have been, although it did give us this picture.

The whole news team will be back for the new Anchorman

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will arrive in cinemas on 20 December.
