'Son Of God' - 'The Bible' Series Transformed Into Feature-Length Epic [Trailer + Pictures]
After the rather surprising success of NBC's miniseries The Bible this year, the television adaptation of the story of Jesus Christ will be turned into a feature-length movie, rendering Christopher Spencer's biblical movie more accessible to viewers around the world.
Son of God will feature the original scenes shown in The Bible miniseries, with some deleted scenes that were not originally featured in the telecast, reports Variety. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey reportedly struck a deal with 20th Century Fox to distribute their feature film which will be edited down from the original 10 hour series to 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The Emmy-nominated series, which aired in March 2013 on History, averaged 15 million US viewers across its five 2-hour instalments and has subsequently sold over one million DVD units since its release making it the top-selling TV-to-disc title of the past two years. Though the miniseries' ratings proves its widespread mainstream appeal outside of religion, its success its partially being attributed to the embracement of faith leaders who endorsed The Bible.

Another television series, titled A.D.: Beyond The Bible, will also be aired on the History channel and will pick up where The Bible left off: after the resurrection of Jesus, charting the spread of Christianity. Son of God will yet again see Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado as Jesus, joined by Roma Downey's Mother Mary, Darwin Shaw as Peter and Amber Rose Revah's Mary Magdalene. Instead of incorporating the stories of Abraham and Noah, as seen in The Bible, Son of God will focus primarily on the life of Jesus.
Following his humble birth in a Bethlehem stable, Jesus comes to be revered by many as the saviour and accrues a band of disciples as he preaches, heals, walks on water and feeds hundreds. However, his good deeds and rising popularity arouse the suspicion from the authorities who fear the Devil. When one of Jesus' own disciples betrays him, the Son of God is handed over to the Romans before being tortured and crucified only to return from the dead.
Son of God will be released on the 28th February in the USA and on the 5th March in the UK.
