He said: "I've lived in LA for a long time and they say, 'If you sit in a barber's shop for long enough you will get a hair cut.' Well, if you live in Los Angeles for long enough you're going to get some surgery," according to the Daily Mail.

"I've had a thatch done and I didn't even need it," he admitted, "That's the weirdest thing. I had three months off and got bored."

During the interview, the popular singer revealed his reasons for moving back to London with his daughter Theodora and wife Ayda.

"Teddy (daughter) was born 13 month ago and all of a sudden I got homesick. I want her to have British sensibilities and for her to understand irony," he said.

On writing songs for his baby, Williams explained, "I've been very selfish in the past and have had everything done for me so I was terrified I wasn't up to looking after this little person so 'Go Gentle' sealed my promise to her that I would."

Tonight's show also features Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and David Tennant, Saving Mr Banks actress Emma Thompson, the comedian Jimmy Carr and singer Olly Murs.

According Music Week, Robbie's new LP Swings Both Ways achieved more pre-orders than any other album in Amazon.co.uk history. The album - released on Monday (November 18) - has already become the highest selling first week album of 2013 on the online retailer, overtaking Take That's Progress, Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, Coldplay's X&Y and Amy Winehouse's Lioness: Hidden Treasure.

"Robbie Williams has long been tipped for Christmas success with his highly anticipated new album, but to overtake Take That's Progress as the most pre-ordered album on Amazon.co.uk is some feat," said Paul Firth, Amazon.co.uk head of music.

Robbie Williams appears to have re-opened his feud with Liam Gallagher over the former Oasis frontman's alleged infidelity. According to a New York Post report, Gallagher had an affair and fathered a child with American journalist Liza Ghorbani, leading to a split from his wife, the singer Nicole Appleton who was previously engaged to Williams.

Speaking to The Sun, Robbie said: "I have a very big soft spot for Nic because she's a very decent person. I feel sorry for her as she deserves to be in a good place, in a happy marriage, and I thought she was with Liam. But it would appear that they weren't. Nicole really doesn't deserve all that from Liam. I've very, very fond memories of her. She's a sweetie."

He added, "I think you're very lucky to find somebody you can coexist with without straying or going mad or being angry. That's whether you're Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appleton, Robbie Williams and Ayda Field or Tim and June from down the road. Luckily I'm in a relationship where we are heading in the same direction - but Liam and Nicole weren't."

Williams and Gallagher were previously decent mates, until Liam called him "the fat dancer from Take That."
