Alec Baldwin's Foul-Mouthed Homophobic Rant Defended By Daughter Ireland

Alec Baldwin's daughter, Ireland, has defended her father for hurling a stream of homophobic about at a paparazzo last week. Baldwin has received a torrent of criticism and has even had his chat show, Up Late With Alec Baldwin, suspended after he allegedly called a pursuing photographer a "c**k-s***ing f*g."

Ireland Baldwin tweeted her support for her father, writing "My dad is far from a homophobe or a racist," as well as "We all say things we don't mean. We all say things we can't take back," she tweeted. "What my dad said was WRONG. What my dad felt WASN'T."

Perhaps attempting to put her father's words into perspective, the model added "Having paparazzi following my mom and I has not been thrilling," and "Paparazzi can bring out many confined feelings of anger and spite."

The 55 year-old's rant was posted online in a TMZ video and the star has experienced an enormous backlash from many, including his fans and the gay community. A spokesperson for gay rights group GLAAD which has previously defended Baldwin, Rich Ferraro, said "Mr. Baldwin can't lend his support for equality on paper, while degrading gay people in practice. It's clearly time he listens to the calls from so many LGBT people and allies to end this pattern of anti-gay slurs," via NY Daily News.

Baldwin has apologised for his remarks, labelling them "offensive and unacceptable." Since having his show suspended, Baldwin has written a blog post for The Huffington Post, threatening to quit showbiz and trying to defend his actions in New York. "I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have - and for that I am deeply sorry," he said.

"This country's obsession with the private lives of famous people is tragic. It's tragic in the sense that it is so clearly a projection of people's frustration about their government, their economy, their own spiritual bankruptcy," Baldwin wrote. "If quitting the television business, the movie business, the theater, any component of entertainment, is necessary in order to bring safety and peace to my family, then that is an easy choice," his blog reads.

Within the same week this isn't the only time Alec has been the centre of media attention. Last week saw his stalker, Genevieve Sabourin, jailed for seven months. Canadian actress Sabourin claimed that she and Baldwin had entered into a sexual relationship which compelled her to pursue the 30 Rock star as well as his wife, Hilaria.

Sabourin was warned by a judge for heckling Alec and his wife in court, chided for her relentless and at times threatening pursuit, and convicted of attempted aggravated harassment, stalking, attempted criminal contempt and harassment.
