A Week In News: ARTPOP Arrives, Thor Soars, Miley Cyrus Gets High & Sacha Baron Cohen Pulls A Shocking Stunt

  • 15 November 2013

'ARTPOP' Drops: Lady GaGa released her fourth studio album, ARTPOP, on the 11th November after a rollercoaster few months ensuring her new record would hit the charts running. However, middling reviews and an anti-climactic release after months of leaked songs, incentives to buy and mini monster melt-downs means Mother Monster's new work may have misfired. But the elusive Gaga showed that through it all she had a sense of humour when she parodied her infamous meat dress on SNL. See how here.

Miley Cyrus' MTV EMAs Joint: Pop star Miley Cyrus continued her whirlwind of controversy during this week's MTV Europe Music Awards, held in Amsterdam. Miley performed her Bangerz hits 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball' in her characteristically skimpy outfits. See photos here. But it was when she puffed on a very suspicious roll-up during her 'Best Video' acceptance that made the internet buzz. Find out more here.

McFly + Busted = McBusted!: Yes indeed, for all fans of early millennial guitar pop boybands, this is one supergroup tour you do not want to miss. McFly and the now-disbanded Busted are teaming up to relive the good old days of 2004 in a new UK arena tour next year, minus Charlie Simpson. Say what?! Tickets are on sale now.

Kills An Old Lady: We're still not totally convinced that this didn't happen. During last weekend's Britannia Awards, Sacha Baron Cohen was honoured for his contribution to comedy by Salma Hayek and an actress introduced as Grace Collington, a supposed former child star who worked with Charlie Chaplin. The elderly, wheelchair-bound lady offered Sacha a cane and the actor began to dance but slipped, pushing Grace off the stage before she was carried out of the room motionless. Read more and watch Sacha's hilarious acceptance speech here.

A Week In News continued...

Bieber Continues To Irritate South America: After last week's Justin Bieber mayhem in South America, this week has continued to bring disappointing news from the seemingly idiotic 19 year-old 'Baby' pop star. After THAT brothel trip, the wall spraying, the alleged prostitute, the sleeping video, and storming off after being bottled, Bieber has now caused outrage in Argentina when he kicked aside the country's flag, caused a Belieber tornado of destruction outside a hotel and ended his show early due to claimed food poisoning. Oh, and did we mention he has a new song with R Kelly coming?

'Thor' Pulverises The Box Office: Thor: The Dark World has obliterated the US box office in its first weekend, hoovering up $86.1m (£53.8m) from action-hungry cinemagoers. Watch the trailer. The sequel sees Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddlestone and Natalie Portman resume their roles as they are forced to fight against a new, and even more evil, evil. Check out some premiere photos. Is it all just explosions or actually a good film? Find out what the critics are saying and read our review here.

Eminem Buffs His Rap Crown: If you hadn't heard, Eminem is back with a brand new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The title harks back to his seminal 2000 debut so was always going to be a provocative choice, but it appears Slim Shady has yet again earned a round of nods from fans and critics alike with his latest offering. Read our review here. MMLP2 has topped the US album charts with 792,000 sales, making it the year's second biggest first week number one after Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience in March. Didn't he mime on SNL though? Eminem also gave a blistering 'Berzerk' rap performance at the EMAs where he picked up the Global Icon Trophy.

Video Of The Week - 'Malificent' Teaser Is Wickedly Good: A teaser trailer has been released for Angelina Jolie's new Disney movie, Malificent, in which the actress plays the title villainess from the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. However, the movie gives context to Malificent's ruthless evil in a backstory every Disney fan should be excited about. Watch the trailer here. Jolie's horned costume is one of the movie's most enticing features and marks her return to film acting. Find out more.
