Congratulations Anchorman Fans: Your Constant Quoting Led To 'Anchorman 2'!

By making a film with so many quotable lines, the public couldn’t resist but repeat them to each other on a daily basis; the Anchorman team basically guaranteed themselves a sequel, even if they didn’t quite know it at the time.

“We’ve never made a sequel to any of the films we’ve done because we’ve been anti-sequel. Why not explore a new idea instead of revising something that you’ve already made?” the film’s star, Will Ferrell, told Screen Rant.

"But as the years ticked by and Ron Burgundy’s catchphrases kept current in pop culture, the two comedians slowly began to reconsider. I think we just started saying casually, ‘Well, if there’s one we’re going to make a sequel to, it’s Anchorman—but we’re still never going to make a sequel,” he continued.

In other Anchorman news, to celebrate the sequel, a special line of underwear has been launched by Jockey. Available in Sex Panther Red and Beard of Zeus Blue, the snazzy widefronts promise to “give your little anchorman the support he deserves."

According to The L.A Times, Ira Mayer, publisher of the trade publication "Licensing Letter," thinks there’s more to this partnership than a simple increase of sales. "You do these deals for a variety of reasons. Boosting sales may be one of them. Image is probably a more likely one, and the promotion and the publicity. That is all part of it, and it's a legitimate part," he said.

Talking about the unusual partnership, Marty Brochstein - senior vice president of industry relations and information for the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers' Association (phew!) – said: "Every time that Jockey has the special packaging on a shelf, or on the store's website, it reminds people that 'Anchorman 2' is opening Dec. 20.That's a billboard for the movie."
