'American Horror Story: Coven' Season Premieres With 'Bitchcraft'
American Horror Story: Coven has begun and is promising to be the best season yet. Its dramatic, complicated and moderately sinister. What more could you ask for from AHS?
As usual with the franchise, there's overlapping time periods. In this one, the 1830's are intermingled with the modern day. There's going to be further time periods to come including scenes based around the Salem Witch Trials, which will reveal the fates of the witch student's ancestors.
A relic from the dark past of New Orleans, where this latest instalment of the American Horror franchise is set, is Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Bates); an evil and racist serial killer. There's definitely tension between the head witch Fiona Goode (Lange) and LaLaurie. Creator Ryan Murphy describes Goode was "liberal" (whilst speaking to E!) who despises LaLaurie's attitude. In recompense for LaLaurie's heinous crimes, Goode makes her a servant to one of her students.
Jessica Lange's Goode is accompanied by her daughter Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) in teaching the young witches: Emma Roberts as Madison, Gabourey Sidibe as human voodoo doll Queenie; and Jaime Brewer as Nan.
American Horror Story: Coven airs on FX at 10pm on Wednesdays.
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters, an off screen couple, star as Madison and Kyle (is he wearing slippers?)
