James Franco Wants An Oscar For 'Spring Breakers'. No, Really.

There have been plenty of creative tactics played by movies launching Oscar campaigns to sway voters, including persuasive attempts by The Fighter and The Kings Speech, but one actor has decided to make his bid as blunt as possible to get attention.

Directed and written by Harmony Korine, Spring Breakers was released last March to widespread critical enjoyment and heavy box office takings, with over $30 million grossed worldwide. The plot centres on four college girls (Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson & Rachel Korine) who seek the hedonism of the spring break holiday like their peers, but don't have enough money.

Motivated towards the spring parties, the girls steal their professor's car, commit armed robbery with water pistols, and head for Florida with the spoils. The girls' Floridian holiday becomes a reckless affair, and they are soon arrested after one particularly wild party. A stranger named Alien bails them and the girls become immersed in a dangerous gang culture where they become completely in over their heads in a world of guns and drugs.
