Amanda Seyfried On Taking 'The Riskiest Role In Hollywood'
Amanda Seyfried, the 27-year-old actress who plays Deep Throat adult film star Linda Lovelace in Rob Epstein's new biopic, says she considered the role the 'riskiest' in Hollywood after first reading the script. Of course, the subject matter of 'Lovelace' will always raise eyebrows, but is the new movie co-starring Peter Sarsgaard and James Franco really that risqué?
"I read the script and I was like, 'Wow, this is the riskiest thing that's happening [in Hollywood] right now,'" said Seyfried to Elle magazine this month. "The first thing you think about is that it could have ruined my career. At the same time, I was like, 'This is my chance to show them, to show the industry, to be recognized.'"
If Seyfried imagined Lovelace to be her Oscar-moment, she may be a tad disappointed. The early reviews have been lukewarm at the very best, though the Les Miserables has certainly done no damage to a career that appears to be in the ascendancy.
Ultimately, 'Lovelace' is a dark movie focusing on the heinous abuse Linda suffered at the hands of her husband Chuck Traynor, played superbly by the ever-impressive Sarsgaard. "I had a hard time letting go of Linda at the end of the movie," Seyfried had previously told Associated Press, "I had a really intense time with Peter Sarsgaard, I think we both had a hard time letting go because we went to these places."
'Lovelave,' hits theaters in the U.S. on August 9, 2013. The full Elle interview with Amanda Seyfried will be available on newsstands on July 23, 2013.
