'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory: The Musical' Premieres Followed By A Star-Studded After-Party [Pictures]

The opening night of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory: The Musical turned out to be a star studded occasion. The after party pictures show the turnout of celebrities in support of director Sam Mendes, who directed this latest production. Stars included Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), Doctor Who side-kick Jenna Louise Coleman and presenter Graham Norton. Other actors present were Maxine Peake (The Village), Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Summer Strallen (Land Girls) and Danny Mac (Hollyoaks).

Opening last night, the musical has received mixed reviews whilst some have praised Mendes' take on the classic children's novel as being 'fresh' and something which 'leaves you wanting more', according to Paul Taylor of the Independent. Others have criticised the production for, at times, being over-bearing and too dependent on special effects of which Mendes 'doesn't stint on' according to the Guardian's Michael Billington.Charlie And The Chocolate Factory: the Musicalis following in the footsteps of another Roald Dahl book, Matilda, which has been re-envisioned as musical theatre.
