Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs Biopic Set For An August Release Date

  • 12 June 2013

Ashton Kutcher's portrayal of Steve Jobs in the imaginatively titled Jobs will be released in theatres this summer, with the biopic hitting cinemas across America on August 16. The film was originally slated for an April release date, but the film's producers at Open Road Films have decided on a summer release in the hopes of better ticket sales.

Jobs was shopped around at the beginning of 2013 at the Sundance Film Festival and a few other film soirées, where the biopic was given a lukewarm reception by most critics. Some critics did commend the film though, with some remarking on the impressive performances from most of the cast.

The August 16 release date is an unusual choice if ORF are hoping for strong ticket sales, with a number of films already set for an August 16 release date. Kick-Ass 2 comes out on that date and the White House-set drama The Butler is also coming out then too. The thriller Paranoia and limited releases Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Austenland and Prince Avalanche (which all played at Sundance too) are also set for a August 16 release, with Elysium, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Planes and We’re the Milllers opening the weekend before Jobs' Friday release date.

The film was directed by Joshua Michael Stern and co-stars Matthew Modine, Dermot Mulroney, and Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak. The story of Steve Jobs' life was written for the screen by Matt Whiteley in his screenwriting debut.
