Radio Disney Awards 2013: Selena Gomez Wins Best Female Artist

  • 29 April 2013

Proving that there’s life after Justin Bieber (and heaven knows it seems like the girl had a lucky escape, if recent reports are anything to go by), Selena Gomez was one of the big winners at the 2013 Radio Disney Awards on Saturday night (April 27, 2013), MTV reports. Wearing an elaborate blue outfit that could have passed her as a figure skater (minus the skates – bit of a giveaway), Gomez performed her new single ‘Come and Get It’ at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles and also went home with the Best Female Artist gong.

Her former boyfriend Justin Bieber was awarded Best Male Artist, despite the fact that he’s had nothing but negative press of late, what with all the smoking pot, annoying neighbours, leaving monkeys at airports and leaving culturally insensitive remarks in historical tourist attraction guest-books… One Direction also came out of the awards ceremony triumphant, with two awards to their name. They won the Best Music Group award and more importantly, the Fiercest Fans awards. Because what every true artist wants out of their career is a bunch of really fierce fans on their side, just in case a full-scale pop fan war breaks out. Looks as though One Direction are safe, should that eventually occur.

And of course, no pop music awards ceremony is complete without the praises of Taylor Swift being sung. Everybody’s favourite country-pop crossover won Song of the Year for ‘I Knew You Were Trouble,’ which everybody knows is about One Direction’s Harry Styles. Oh yes it is.
