Leather Canopy? Gold Spokes? It Can Only Be Lady Gaga's 24 Carat Wheelchair
OK. Here’s the scenario. You are Lady GaGa. You have been told you need hospital treatment, some surgery on your hip. You’re finding the whole ‘walking’ thing a bit tricky and you need assistance in getting around. Do you a) ask Gran for her walking stick for a little while? b) pop down the local ER and ask them if they have a spare pair of crutches knocking around or c) commission a 24 carat gold wheelchair by Ken Borochov, jewellery designer to the stars.
The answer? You’re Lady Gaga! It’s c) of course! That’s right, folks, if Mother Monster needs to be moving around on wheels, then she’s sure as hell going to do it in style! New York Post have a snap of the pop goddess, perched upon her mobility-aid of a throne, all plush with black leather and real gold frames. Those wheel spokes are positively sparkling, we tell you. Borochov himself was a little taken aback by the unusual request but with celebrity clients like Nicki Minaj and Kanye West on his list, he was more than capable of rising to the challenge.
“I certainly wasn't expecting that phone call and have never done a wheelchair," he told the New York Post "But [I] am always up for a challenge and was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen." He was even thoughtful enough to put a little leather canopy on the chair, to keep the sun out of her eyes and the rain off her lovely long locks.
