DreamWorks Start Their Engines With New 'Turbo' Trailer

  • 03 January 2013

With Pixar bringing back their big guns in the form of Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. for follow-ups, DreamWorks knew that it needed to have an answer - and it’s clearly hoping that Turbo will be that retort.

The film stars Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the snail Theko, as well as a cast that includes Paul Giamatti, Michael Peña, Luis Guzman, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson. Reynolds’ Theko dreams of the fast-life, wishing that he could race at IndyCar and become the fastest snail in the world – an improbable dream, sure, but one that he – as luck would have it – finds himself succeeding in.

DreamWorks has got big plans for Turbo, with the film’s pending success hopefully leading the way for them to launch a TV series around the franchise, production of which is already underway. In a knowing juxtaposition, the new trailer revealed for the film shows the high pace, high risk nature of an IndyCar car race, including a huge crash; then it switches to Theko, struggling to make his way to the end of a ruler in little over 15 minutes. We have to be honest, we’re not entirely convinced – what do you reckon?
