Pictures: Anne Hathaway And Amanda Seyfried's Outfits The Talking Point Of The New York Les Miserables Premiere
Props to the main stars of Les Miserables, they're putting in the effort on the film's run of premieres. Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast were all out in force again at the New York City premiere of the novel adaptation less than a week after they'd ran the red carpet gamut in London. What a difference a continent makes, though; whilst across in the UK Hathaway and the rest of the female cast dressed prettily but conservatively, at the Ziegfield Theatre they held nothing back, both Hathaway and Seyfried causing jaws to drop with their outfits.
Both Hathaway and Seyfried seemed to be taking a slightly gothic influence, with the former revealing some very garish strappy bondage-style boots, whilst the latter had a slightly retro look about her harking back to the 50s, with a classy clutch bag helping to make up her ensemble. Dressed stoically as ever, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman couldn't help but take a back stage to these attention-grabbing dresses.
Of the gentlemen, it was perhaps Eddie Redmayne who impressed most in the style stakes - he was the man who at least took a bit of a chance anyway, heading down the red carpet with a snazzy looking blue suit, and an even snazzier looking woman on his arm in the form of co-star Samantha Barks. Helena Bonham Carter didn't make an appearance this time, but director Tom Hooper and actor Sacha Baron Cohen were once again in attendance.
There was a lot of pressure on Hooper to get it right on Les Miserables. Originally a novel written by French historian Victor Hugo in 1862, the musical adaptation of it became one of the most critically successful on Broadway in the 1980's and has a fine reputation even in 2012. Previous film adaptations have been made, but none as big budget or with such a cast as this; the general public will get a chance to witness the results for themselves when the film is released in the US on Christmas Day.
