Rihanna Kicks Off 777 Tour: Seven Shows, Seven Cities, Seven Days
Rihanna has always been pretty good at juggling her prolific recording career with a good old party or two and it looks as though the Barbadian star is at it again, taking her dance infused R&B across the globe, in just 7 days. Yep, the Disturbia star has kicked off her 777 tour which sees her play seven gigs in seven cities over seven days.
Accompanied by over 150 journalists and lucky competition winners, Rihanna cruised into Mexico City this week for the very first show, during which she played the likes of Diamonds, Umbrella and We Found Love. Her Mexican fans were also treated to acoustic renditions of Run This Town, What's My Name and Where Have You Been. Before touching down in the South American city, Rihanna had taken over the Boeing 777 jet's tanoy system to wish everyone a warm welcome and thank them for being a part of the project. In true Rhi-Rhi style, she proceeded to crack open a bottle of champagne and top up the glasses of the gathered jetsetters.
So where does the Boeing 777 head next? Well, it's a trip to Toronto tonight (November 15, 2012) before moving on to Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London (She's up for a 4Music Video Honour later this month) and finally New York on Tuesday. Ahead of her performance in the Swedish capital, Rihanna told the country's Metro newspaper, "I'm so excited about the 777-tour. We will transform this jumbo jet into a tour bus. We will practically live in it for a week: sleeping, partying, all together. Me, my fans, the press...It is going to be a wild ride."
Whereas most pop stars seem to bring their hectic schedules to an end at this time of the year, Rihanna is just getting started. As well as the 777 tour, she's up for numerous end-of-year awards including Best Girl at the 4Music Video Honours and will released her seventh studio album Unapologetic on November 19, 2012.
