Shocker: Paranormal Activity 5 Set For Halloween 2013 Release
Well we didn't see this one coming. Or did we see it coming from a million miles off? Yes, probably the latter. After the box-office success of Paranormal Activity 4 this past weekend, Paramount has signalled its intention to continue the franchise in 2013.
According to Deadline.com, the fifth instalment will follow-on from the latest movie, though a Spring spin-off is also being readied, aimed at Paranormal Activity's considerable Latino audience. Christopher Landon, son of Hollywood legend Michael Landon, will helm the project. "This will be an off-shoot aimed at the groups who have been the biggest supporters of the property - Latinos and folks in Latin America - Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina," said one studio insider. So just to recap; Paranormal Activity 5 will hit theaters on Halloween 2013, but not before a special spring spoof-fest attempts to hose up millions from the hitherto untapped Latino market.
We certainly don't blame Paramount for releasing a new movie each October - box office success is a certainty and the movies can be made on the cheap - though a spin-off movie halfway through the year, really? The fourth movie in the franchise stormed the weekend box-office with $30 million. The 'also rans' were Argo ($16.6 million), Hotel Transylvania ($13.5 million) and Taken 2 ($13.4 million).
