A Week In News Feat: Robin Gibb, Will Smith, Howard Stern, Sacha Baron Cohen And More

  • 23 May 2012

Goodbye to the Queen of Disco: In what has been a heart-breaking week for music - and the disco genre in particular - Donna Summer sadly passed away following a long battle with cancer. Tributes to one of the most respected vocalists in the game have been pouring in, and fans have been in shock, with Summer choosing to keep the extent of her illness a secret to everyone but close family and friends.

To Love Somebody: Just days after the sad passing of Donna Summer came news that Bee Gees legend Robin Gibb had also lost his battle with cancer. One of most influential musicians of all time, Gibb's untimely death leaves Barry as the only surviving member of the historic group.

Glitz And Glamor: The sad death of two of music's most enduring icons took a little sheen off the start of this year's Cannes Film Festival, though week two is really hotting up, especially with Brad Pitt in town to promote his drama 'Killing Them Softly'. It's still early days, but we predict another Oscar nomination for the Hollywood A-lister!

Will Hits Back: Will Smith slapping a reporter? Surely not, you may think? Well that's exactly what happened this week when one Russian reporter got too close to the 'Men In Black 3' star! Fans of the actor claim he was well within his rights to strike the man - though we'll leave that up to you to decide!

Safe and Sound: Fans of the actor Nick Stahl breathed a collective sigh of relief this week after it was announced that the Terminator 3 star had been found safe, several days after he was reported missing. Stahl is reportedly looking to recover in rehab, and we hope to see the actor back on screen soon!

Dancing Star Donald: After a relentless dancing schedule - which reportedly included 13 hour days, plus the live shows - Donald Driver was named the Dancing With The Stars champion for 2012, congratulations to him! In the end, he just pipped Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins to the prize.

Is Howard to Blame? America's Got Talent not-so-great audience figures have led many critics to suggest Howard Stern's timid start to the show is affecting its popularity. We for one think Howard's presence on the judging panel can only be a good thing, and predict things will start to hot up pretty soon.

Video of the Week: This week's hottest footage features something of a rarity: Sacha Baron Cohen making a public appearance as himself. The actor has conducted most of the publicity for 'The Dictator' as Admiral General Aladeen, and we can't but help think Sacha seems a little shy when arriving for the David Letterman show in New York.
