George Lucas To 'Retire' Following 'Red Tails' Rejection

George Lucas has claimed that he's done with making blockbusters, revealing that it was the realisation that Hollywood weren't prepared to invest in his latest film 'Red Tails' that heralded the decision, the legendary film-maker citing disillusionment with the realisation that his legacy meant nothing in the eyes of those he was trying to seek backing from.
Speaking to the New York Times, Lucas said "I'm retiring, I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff." Lucas revealed he'd been turned away for his film 'Red Tails,' an action film featuring an all-black cast; he said of those who rejected him - some not bother to turn up "Isn't this their job? Isn't their job at least to see movies? It's not like some Sundance kid coming in there and saying, 'I've got this little movie - would you see it?' If Steven (Spielberg) or I or Jim Cameron or Bob Zemeckis comes in there, and they say, 'We don't even want to bother to see it."
As a result the film was created entirely under Lucas' own steam, with a release date set for January 20th. Whether he's really planning on retiring is up for debate, murmurs of a fifth 'Indiana Jones' have been circling for some time and for a man whose more than happy to re-release and re-release again the 'Star Wars' franchise you sense that might be too tempting a thing for him to walk out on. For now, at least though, it seems that that's his full intention.
