  • 30 November 2011

Amy Winehouse 's dress that she wore on the cover of her hugely successful 'Back To Black' album has sold for a phenomenal 43k in a London auction - and in touching news, the dress's designer Disaya donated the entire winning bid to the foundation that had been set up in the late star's memory by her father Mitch Winehouse.
The Bbc reports that Winehouse Sr. was present at the auction, organised by Kerry Taylor Auctions and expressed his delight at both the winning bid and Disaya's consequent kind gesture, saying "We are just over the moon and we owe a great debt to the designer, Disaya, who donated the proceeds from the sale." The jazz musician also went on to explain specific areas that The Amy Winehouse Foundation were hoping to reach, commenting "We are particularly keen to make donations in Camden, a place very close to the family's hearts as Amy's home." The foundation has been set up to help charities which support young people, particularly those suffering from mental illness or substance and alcohol issues.
The polka dot chiffon dress became iconic after the release of Winehouse's 'Back To Black' album in 2006; it went six times platinum in the UK and sold over 2 million copies there as well as notching up sales of some 820,000 plus in the US. A posthumous album, titled 'Lioness: Hidden Treasures' is out on Monday December 5th.
